How to Become a Texas State Game Warden
Approximately 500 game wardens work in the state of Texas. Game wardens enforce the state's hunting and fishing laws and stop people from vandalizing natural resources and state parks. Game wardens also work with local and state law officers to track down criminals. A game warden's salary is $27,000 to $49,000 a year, according to the PayScale website. Before becoming a Texas state game warden, you must complete several steps.

Complete a bachelor's degree from an accredited university or college.

Meet the minimum legal requirements. To become a game warden in Texas you must be at least 21 years old and a citizen of the United States. You cannot have ever been convicted of a felony, a Class A misdemeanor or domestic violence. If you have a Class B misdemeanor on your record, it must be at least 10 years old. Parolees and those individuals who left the military with a dishonorable discharge may not apply.

Pass the physical and psychological requirements set forth by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Professionals must perform both evaluations. According to the Texas Park and Wildlife Department, the applicant must have 20/30 vision or better with or without corrective lenses. Hearing must be at least 35 decibels in each ear in a range of frequencies. Applicants must pass a drug test.

Fill out the employment application and pass the physical fitness test. The test consists of sit-ups, push-ups and running. A swim test and a shooting test will also be administered. Failure to complete or pass any of the tests leads to the rejection of the application.

Complete the training process after your application is accepted. Following training, a prospective game warden takes a licensing exam. After passing the licensing exam, you can be commissioned as a Texas state game warden.
