How to Change Your Prepaid Cingular Phone Number

As of 2010, Cingular was renamed AT&T. AT&T offers Pay as You Go and Pick Your Plan prepaid service. Prepaid service lets you make calls, send texts and use data features without having a contract. If you pay month to month, you can get a new phone number for your GoPhone by contacting AT&T customer service.

Instructions

1. Call AT&T Prepaid Customer Care at 800-901-9878 or dial 611 on your GoPhone. Enter your phone number at the prompt and wait for a prepaid service representative to speak with you.

2. Ask the representative to change your prepaid number. Tell him the reason why you want to change the number. If you are relocating, you may be eligible for a free phone-number change. Otherwise, there may be a fee of $18 as of October 2010.

3. Choose a phone number. Pick a similar phone number if it is available so it is easy for you to remember. Pay the fee if necessary, using a debit or credit card. The phone number will be changed while you are on the phone with the representative. You may have to power off the phone and power it back on again to see the change.
