How to Bridge an 8 ohm Speaker Into a Car Stereo
Bridging amplifiers is a useful method to extracting more power from amplifiers that are capable of this feature. Using an 8 ohm speaker while bridging is safe for nearly any bridgeable amp and supplies the speaker with a little more dynamic impact than simply driving it in stereo. Eight ohm loads present stable loads for nearly any amplifier, suitable for home or car use. In addition, most 8 ohm speakers are identical to their 4 ohm counterparts, only more efficient.
Things You'll Need
- Screwdriver (Philips, Torx, Allen)
- Wire strippers
- Wire cutters
- Speaker wire
Instructions
-
-
1
Cut a length of speaker wire, suitable to reach from the bridgeable amplifier to the 8 ohm speaker.
-
2
Strip 1/4 inch of insulation from both ends of the wire. Twist the bare wires down to secure stray wire filaments.
-
-
3
Loosen the amplifier's bridged operation terminals, labeled above or below the terminal screws. Typically, this means left positive, right negative. Insert the speaker wires under these terminals and tighten them back down with the appropriate screwdriver.
-
4
Push down the binding terminals on the rear of the 8 ohm speaker. Following the same positive-negative polarity observed at the amplifier, insert the speaker wires and release the individual terminals to secure the wire.
