You can reset the computer on your 2005 Chevy right from your home garage, saving yourself time and money. Warning lights illuminate on the Chevy's instrument panel to keep you informed of the status of the various systems in the vehicle. They also tell you when the vehicle needs servicing. After you have had the vehicle repaired, you or your mechanic will need to reset the On-Board Diagnostics computer so that the warning lights will turn off.

Step 1

Pop open the hood of your Chevy and locate the negative battery terminal. On this terminal is a clamp that has a nut attached to it. Loose nthe nut using an end wrench. Slip the clamp off of the negative terminal and take care not to allow it to touch the positive side of the battery.

Step 2

Wait 30 minutes then put the negative battery clamp back onto the negative side of the battery. Tighten the nut with the end wrench.

Step 3

Put the key into the ignition and start the engine. Observe the instrument panel to make sure all warning lights have shut off. This means the computer has been reset.
