Things You'll Need

  • 1 cup vinegar (white or cider)

  • 1/2 cup baking soda

  • Nylon scrub pad or soft cloth

  • Long handled small scrub brush

Sometimes washing a stainless steel coffee carafe with soapy water or even in the dishwasher is not enough to remove stubborn stains. Coffee stains can be difficult to remove even for the most experienced homemakers. Instead of resorting to the use of strong chemicals to clean your coffee carafe, try a few household items to revitalize, clean and make your stainless steel carafe look like new.

Step 2

Pour one cup vinegar into the carafe and swish around to cover the sides of the carafe. Let sit for 10 minutes.

Step 3

Empty the vinegar from the carafe and rinse with hot water.

Step 4

Pour the baking soda into the carafe and scrub the interior with a nylon scrub pad, or a soft, non-abrasive cloth until you reveal a shiny surface. If you can't reach your hand all the way in to scrub, use a long handled small scrub brush--such as a bottle brush--to reach the interior.

Step 5

Rinse out the baking soda and allow to dry.

Warning

Avoid splashing the vinegar in your eyes.
