How to Find an Inmate in Rikers Island
When searching for an inmate, it can be relatively easy to find the details of their incarceration if you know the specific prison system in which the inmate in question is being held. For Riker's Island, the New York City Department of Corrections maintains an inmate look-up tool that provides the inmate's name, a set of identifying information related to his or her incarceration, the current status of the inmate's legal case, his or her current facility location, and an estimated discharge date.

Gather appropriate identifying information. An inmate can be found by entering the New York State Identification Number or their "Book and Case" number. Alternatively the inmate can be found by searching with at least two of the following pieces information: first name, last name, date of birth, or age. (See Reference 1)

Navigate to the New York City Department of Corrections inmate tracker. (See Reference 1) Enter the information you have gathered into the search boxes and click the blue "Search" button. If more than one inmate's information matches your search criteria, you will be able to select the appropriate inmate based on more detailed information provided.

Click the link in the column of search results that lists the inmate's "Current facility." This will bring you to a page that gives more specific details on where the inmate is located in the Riker's Island facility including the nature of the facility and its specific location.
