Connecting a water hose on a washing machine is a 10-minute job.

All washing machines have a hot and a cold water hose. One end of each of these hoses is installed onto the fittings on the washing machine, and the other end is installed on the shut-off valves on the home's water lines. Attaching a hose to a washing machine is a straightforward process, so long as the hot and cold shut-off valves are connected to their respective fittings on the washer.       Locate the water shut-off valves on the water lines. Feel the water lines to determine which is the hot and which is the cold.

      Look on the back of the washer for the water hose fittings. The hot is marked with an "H" and the cold with a "C."

      Screw one end the hose onto the shut-off valve by hand. Tighten the fitting with a pair of slip-joint pliers.

      Fasten the other end of the hose to the corresponding fitting on the washer. Ensure that the hose gets connected to either the hot or cold fitting, based on which shut-off the other end is attached to. Hand tighten the fitting and finish tightening it with a pair of slip joint pliers. Repeat this process for the other hose.
