The cover letter you submit for a bartending job may determine whether you land an interview.

Writing a strong cover letter is one of the best ways to grab the attention of a potential employer. If you're applying for a job as a bartender, take time to personalize each cover letter you submit to help you stand out among the competition. Your cover letter should follow a particular format and focus not on how the bartending job will benefit you, but rather how you will be a benefit to the bar as a worker.

Instructions

    • 1

Start a new document and write a header, single spaced, at the top of the page. Include your name, address, phone number and email address. Double space and write the name of the manager who will be considering your cover letter, the name of the bar or establishment, and its address.

    • 2

Write a formal salutation and use the manager or owner's name, such as "Dear Mr. Carrigan." Double space and write a short introductory paragraph that explains who you are and what specific bartending job you are interested in. If you have a personal reference to the job, indicate so in this paragraph.

    • 3

Write the middle paragraph. Instead of restating information on your experience and education that can be found in your resume, focus on the needs of the bar as stated in the bartending job description. Point out those needs and make correlations to your own accomplishments that prove you are the ideal candidate for the position.

    • 4

Write a closing paragraph and explain that you would welcome the opportunity to interview for the bartending position. Thank the manager or owner for his time and consideration, then type a formal closing, such as "Sincerely." Type your name double spaced beneath the closing, then sign your name on the printed letter above your typed name.

Tips & Warnings

  • Your cover letter should fit onto one page and be single spaced, with a space in between every paragraph.
