The object of the lob is to send the ball deep into a back corner without touching the ceiling or sidewall.

Difficulty: Moderately challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Racquetball Goggles
  • Racquetball Rackets
  • Racquetballs
  • Water Bottles With Squeeze Caps
  1. Step 1

Ignore the impulse to go for a smash-mouth power shot on the lob. This is a touch shot.

  2. Step 2

Decide quickly if you're going to hit with a forehand or backhand and turn your shoulders parallel to the sidewall.

  3. Step 3

Pull the racquet as far back as is comfortable.

  4. Step 4

Aim for a spot on the wall three or four feet beneath the ceiling.

  5. Step 5

Swing through the ball slowly and smoothly.

  6. Step 6

    Follow through on your shot.

  7. Step 7

Move to a position at mid-court after hitting the lob.

Tips & Warnings
  • This is a good shot to use when you're buying time to escape out of a defensive position, such as when returning a serve.
  • Try to keep the ball close to a sidewall rather than going cross-court. This makes it more difficult for your opponent to perform an easy return shot.
  • The lob is equally effective backhand, forehand, underhand or overhand.
  • A touch shot is difficult to master. The bouncy ball just doesn't want to respond to a touch shot.
  • If you have any condition which would impair or limit your ability to engage in physical activity, please consult a physician before attempting this activity. This information is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice or treatment.
