Hair extensions can last for four to six months and they can be done in a number of ways. The newest method is cold fusion, which is said to be gentle and will not damage the hair. It is ideal for those who have thin or fine hair as the hair extension can still be attached to the root of the natural hair. Cold fusion hair extensions can be added easily with the right materials.

Things You'll Need

  • Rat tail comb
  • Hair clips
  • Keratin tip hair extensions
  • Heat wand

Separate your hair horizontally from the alignment of one lower ear to the other lower ear using the rat tail comb. Clip the upper portion of the separated hair using the clips so that it will not be mixed with the lower hair.

Take a small strip of hair from the right side of your head using the rat tail comb and clip it. Take a strip of the keratin tip hair extension. Make sure that it is about the same size as the strip of natural hair that you separated earlier.

Place the keratin tip on the top most portion of the natural hair strip. Make sure that it is very close to the roots. Using the heat wand, clip the hair extension to the natural hair. Hold the heat wand in place for about five seconds before you release it. You can re-clip it to make sure that the hair extension is adhered securely to the natural hair.

Continue doing Step 3 until you reach the left side of the head.

Tips & Warnings

  • Wash the hair with shampoo and apply conditioner before you begin the cold fusion procedure so that the hair will be clean as you cannot wash your hair for a day after the procedure.
  • Do not put the heat wand too close to the scalp to avoid damage to the scalp.
