How to Recycle Rubber Garage Mats

Rubber garage mats are thick rubber mats with holes throughout to allow water to drain. They're sometimes made from recycled rubber materials such as car tires. For some products such as garage mats, the recycled rubber works better than the raw rubber. Rather than throwing away this bulky and potentially useful item, recycle it through a center that takes rubber products. Most large recycling centers do, though they might not have a curbside pickup option.

Instructions

1. Call the recycling center nearest you or the one that picks up your recycling. Ask about their pickup options for rubber products and describe the size and number of the garage mat pieces. In many cases they'll do a curbside pickup as long as you've called ahead.

2. Put the mats out for recycling on the day specified by the recycling center. If they asked you to put a note or date on it, do so on bright paper.

3. Take the mats to the recycling center if they cannot set up a pickup from your home. Protect your car from mess by putting the mats in heavy duty plastic bags, or protecting the vehicle with an old blanket.
