How to Get a Good Tan Without Spray-Ons

How to Get a Good Tan Without Spray-Ons thumbnail
A tan can make your body look good.

A tan is often associated with health and leisure. Even though a tan is technically sun damage, it isn't viewed that way by society as general. Also, a good tan on the skin disguises cellulite and other flaws on the skin. While there are plenty of spray-on fake tans, a good tan from the sun tends to be more flattering. Fake tanners can appear orange and streaky if not applied right. Also maintaining a spray-on tan is a lot of work. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Exfoliate your skin using a gentle body scrub and a soft washcloth. Do this at least twice per week, especially prior to a tanning session. Apply a moderate amount of body scrub to the washcloth. Start at your feet and rub it in circles all over your body, until you have covered all of it. Rinse the body scrub off with water.

    • 2

Apply a tanning oil with SPF 8 or 15 in it. Do this approximately 15 minutes before you lay in the sun. Apply the oil in long, smooth strokes and cover every part of the skin that will be exposed to the sun.

    • 3

Tan in the sun on consecutive days. For example, if you are trying to get a good tan without spray-ons, lay in the sun for two days in a row. Perhaps skip one day, and then do it again for another two days in a row. This is especially important when you are first building your tan.

    • 4

Change positions every 30 minutes while tanning in the sun. This will ensure that you will get an even tan. Make sure to tan your sides as well. Set a timer or alarm to remind you to switch sides.

    • 5

Use moisturizer on your skin every single day. Apply it preferably after showering or bathing. It's also best to use it after each tanning session. When shopping for a moisturizer, look for ingredients such as aloe Vera and Shea butter as they nourish the skin well. This will help you get and maintain a good tan.
