How to Encrypt VBS

VBS, or Visual Basic Script, is a type of file format used by Windows operating systems as well as by the Internet Explorer Web browser. You can edit a VBS file by using text editors such as Notepad and WordPad. Encrypting a VBS file can make it secure from unauthorized access. You can use a built-in encryption tool called the Windows Encrypting File System (EFS) to encrypt a VBS file.

Instructions

    • 1

Open Windows Explorer and use it to go to the location of the VBS file that you want to encrypt.

    • 2

Right-click the VBS file and select the option labeled "Properties."

    • 3

Open the VBS file's "Advanced Attributes" dialog box. Under the "General" tab, click the button labeled "Advanced."

    • 4

Enable the option labeled "Encrypts Contents..." by checking the box next to it.

    • 5

Click "OK" to save the changes. Click "Apply" to encrypt the VBS file.
