How to Stop an Action for an Adjustment Layer in Photoshop

A Photoshop action is an automation tool that allows you to record predetermined sets of steps. You then use the actions to speed up the processing of other images following the steps you recorded. Actions normally work without any user interaction. It is possible, however, to introduce a pause in the action, during which Photoshop prompts the user for input and allows for customization of various settings for complex tools such as adjustment layers.

Instructions

    • 1

Launch Photoshop. Open an image to use as a basis for the steps of the action. This image can be anything, as it will not be saved in the action itself.

    • 2

Click on the "New Action" button in the "Actions" palette.

    • 3

Enter a name for the action in the text box labeled "Name." Select an action set using the drop-down menu labeled "Set," and then click "Begin Recording." This will start recording your action.

    • 4

Perform every command you wish to record until you reach the point where you want to add the adjustment layer.

    • 5

Click on the "Menu" button on the "Actions" palette. Select "Insert Menu Item."

    • 6

Click on the "Layer" menu. Hover over "New Adjustment Layer," and then click on the adjustment layer you would like to add. Click "OK." Your action will now stop and prompt users to customize the settings for the adjustment layer you specified.

Continue performing commands until you are satisfied with the steps in your action. Click the "Stop" button in the "Actions" palette to finish recording.
