How to Print Certified Checks

How to Print Certified Checks thumbnail
Certified checks can be printed by your bank.

Writing checks are still an effective way of paying certain bills to businesses and individuals. Employers still cut you a check if you have opted out of direct deposit. Printing certified checks allows recipients to cash a check without any issues. Certain components must be found on the check to prevent any issues from occurring. Certified "cashier's" checks can be printed only at your local bank.

Instructions

  1. Certified Check from bank

    • 1

Verify you have the amount of money necessary for the certified check. Have the correct spelling of the recipient's name.

    • 2

Visit your local branch and inform the teller you want to send a certified check, also known as a cashier's check. The teller will tell you the amount of money you have in your account and verify the cost and recipient of the check before it is printed. Your teller has a special printer that will process and print the check from your account.

    • 3

Double-check the certified check before sending it to your recipient to verify accuracy.

    Print your own check

    • 4

Purchase check-writing software from software companies such as Intuit or Sage, which can be found at your local office supply store.

    • 5

Purchase check-writing paper from your local bank or from your office supply store. Check-writing paper is usually watermarked to keep from people fraudulently creating checks on plain paper. When purchasing check-writing paper from your bank, your account number may be encoded on the paper, whereas paper from the office supply store may be blank.

    • 6

Install any check-writing software and type in the details for your check and recipient (name, address, recipient's name, amount and memo). Verify your routing number and checking account number either by looking at your checkbook or calling your bank's customer service department.

Print the check using a high-end printer such as a laser printer or a dot matrix printer.
