Pear juice, or pear nectar, is a juice that is derived from fresh pears. Pear juice is commonly used in making baked goods such as muffins and preparing juice drinks. You can purchase pear juice at supermarkets or health food stores. However the pear juice you find at these establishments are expensive and may contain numerous chemical preservatives. You can cook your own pear juice at home without the artificial ingredients using a few techniques. Does this Spark an idea?

  • 5 pears
  • Knife
  • Corer
  • Blender
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Nut milk bag
  • Sauce pan
  • Container

Instructions

      Peel and core five pears and place them in a blender or food processor. Add 1/2 cup of clean drinking water and puree the mixture for one minute.

      Place a nut milk bag in a medium sauce pan. A nut milk bag is a reusable nylon bag used to strain juices. Using a nut milk bag and is easier and faster than using a strainer, but you can use a strainer if you don't have a nut milk bag.

      Hold the nut milk bag with one hand and pour the pureed pear juice into the bag. Squeeze the pear juice into the saucepan. Squeeze hard to remove as much juice from the pear pulp as possible. You will have about 1 cup of pear juice.

      Heat the pear juice in the sauce pan over medium heat, stirring constantly for about 10 minutes or until bubbly. Let the juice cool for 30 minutes before transferring to a container.

      Transfer the pear juice to a glass and drink or store it in an airtight jar or container. This juice can be used within one month if stored in the refrigerator.
