How do I Ship Bucket Seats?

Removing the bucket seats from your car gives you more room for large cargo and an easy way to replace torn upholstery. Instead of storing the unused seats in your garage or throwing away a damaged piece, you can make some quick cash by selling them for parts. Depending on the model and make, used bucket seats can sell for $150 to $2,000. Use caution when you ship bucket seats because the value and functionality can be affected by rough handling.

Instructions

    • 1

Strip the upholstery and seat cushion off of the frame if you are having the seat re-surfaced. This will also reduce the shipping weight.

    • 2

Fold the seat by holding the side lever and pressing the back and base together.

    • 3

Tape plastic-foam forms to jagged edges and the bottom track.

    • 4

Wrap the moving blankets around the seat. Ensure all edges are covered and secure them with tape.

    • 5

Cover the entire seat with shrink wrap. Build five to seven layers.

    • 6

Secure the shrink wrap with tape.

    • 7

Tape shipping labels to both sides of the seat. Coat with one to two layers of shrink wrap if desired.

Tips & Warnings

  • While it is not necessary, you can ship fragile, custom or vintage bucket seats in a double-walled cardboard box. Pack as detailed above, then lower the seat into a box. Fill any gaps with packing peanuts and seal.
