How to Connect a Hub to a PC With a Cable

A hub is a simple networking device for connecting multiple computers.

If you want to create a simple local area network between two or more computers, you can connect them with a hub. A hub is a network device that connects multiple computers or other network devices together using Ethernet cables. Hubs differ from switches in that they are unable to differentiate between the devices that are connected to it; they merely pass data from one device to the others.

Things You'll Need

• Ethernet cable
• Network hub

Instructions

1. Shut down the computer and disconnect the hub from the electrical outlet.

2. Plug one end of the Ethernet cable into an empty port on the hub.

3. Plug the other end of the Ethernet cable into the network adapter port on the back of your computer.

4. Plug the hub's power cable into an electrical outlet and press the power button, if present, to turn the device on.

5. Power on the computer. The light above the port on the hub and the light above the computer's network adapter will light up green, indicating that the connection between the two devices is good.
