How to Tint Vehicle Tail Lights

Tinted windows give a vehicle a dark, sleeker look. If you like the effect of tinted windows, you can take it a step further and add tint to other parts of your vehicle. A popular modification is tinting tail lights, which can give your car a "smoky" effect. Rather than taking your car to an expensive shop, you can buy equipment to tint your lights yourself, saving yourself money in the process.

Things You'll Need

• Glass Cleaner
• Can of tint spray
• Can of paint finisher
• Lint-free towel

Instructions

1. Remove the tail light assembly from your vehicle. This may require you remove screws from the rear of the assembly inside the trunk or even remove your bumper depending on the type of vehicle you are working with.

2. Clean the outer glass of your tail lights using glass cleaner. Make sure that your tail lights have been thoroughly cleaned using lint-free towels before moving on to the next step.

3. Shake the tint spray can vigorously for at least two minutes.Spray an even amount over the surface of the tail light while holding the can eight to 10 inches away. Make sure the spray is even throughout the surface and does not drip from the brake light. Allow the tail lights to dry for at least 30 to 45 minutes before you add another coat of paint or move onto the next step.

4. Add a clear finishing coat spraying evenly as you hold the can eight to 10 inches away from the tail light. Leave the tail lights to dry overnight.

5. Visually inspect your tail lights to ensure that they have been dried to your liking. Reinsert the tail light assembly into your vehicle in reverse of how it was removed. Use caution not to scratch your newly tinted tail lights while inserting them into the vehicle. Test your tail lights for proper operation.
