How to Find Map Coordinates

Locations on maps are measured by what are known as map coordinates. The way that you find a map coordinate is by reading the degree measurement of the intersection where the two lines cross over a location, which indicates your location's latitude and longitude.

Instructions

    • 1

Point to the location for which you want to find the map coordinates.

    • 2

Follow the grid line from your location directly upwards and read the number at the top of the grid line to determine your latitude.

    • 3

Follow the grid line from your location directly horizontal and read the number at the end of the grid line to determine your longitude.

Tips & Warnings

  • Remember the difference between latitude and longitude by remembering that longitude runs long and lengthwise, horizontally.

  • You may have to estimate your map coordinates if they lie between grid lines.
