How to Pay Off a Capital One Credit Card Fast

Capital One provides credit cards to customers in the U.S., Canada and the United Kingdom. Capital One allows customers to make same-day payoffs of their accounts via its website. Once an account is paid off, it remains open for future use unless the account-holder contacts Capital One and instructs the company to terminate the account. Capital One credit cardholders receive monthly statements via traditional mail or email. Cardholders can access the Capital One website or call the customer service number to check on transactions that occurred after the statement date.

Schedule the payment. Enter your checking account number and routing number in the account details section. Indicate that you wish to bay the balance in full. Leave the payment date as today's date. Click "Continue." Check the details of the payment amount, funding account and payment date, then select "Confirm." The payment will post to the credit card account at midnight of the same day if the payment is made between Monday and Saturday before 5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Payments made after 5 p.m. EST will post at midnight on the next business day.

Tips & Warnings

  • Carefully review your bank statement for fraudulent charges. If any appear, report them promptly to avoid liability. Capital One also accepts phone payments and mailed payments, but paying online is the only way to pay the same day without a processing fee.

  • Credit card companies can lower credit limits or cancel cards at any time without prior notice. Over-limit balances, low usage and frequent late payments are the main factors in credit reductions and card closings. Payments made more than 30 days after the due date are reported to credit bureaus and will negatively impact your credit score.
