How to Replace the Missing Volume Control in a Desktop Tray
The Volume Control icon that resembles a speaker is placed next to the clock in the notification area of the taskbar in Windows. You can use this icon to quickly access and change the volume on your PC. However, if you are working on a public computer, this icon might have been disabled. In addition, system corruption can also cause this icon to disappear. Fortunately, you can easily replace it.

Right-click the Taskbar anywhere in a blank space and select "Properties."

Click "Customize" in the "Notification area" of the new window. Click the "Turn system icons on or off" link.

Click the drop-down menu next to "Volume" and select "On."

Tips & Warnings
If your system is corrupted, you need to run the Windows System File Checker utility. Click "Start," type "cmd" in the "Start Search" box and press "Enter." Type "sfc.exe /scannow " in the command line window and press "Enter." Restart your computer when the scan is finished.
