How to Open a Brother DCP-115C Scanner & Install an Ink Cartridge
The Brother DCP-115C is a scanner that connects to a computer or network through a USB cable. Depending on how frequently the scanner is used, you'll need to replace ink cartridges every few months. Since it's a color scanner, you may need to change different colors at different times. When a color needs to be replaced, a notice will pop up on your computer or network. Otherwise, you'll see it on the LCD screen on the scanner itself. Replacing the ink is easy and should take only a few minutes.

1
Look at the LCD screen for the color or colors that need to be replaced. Lift the right side of the scanner cover until it locks open with the built-in stand.
-
2
Pull the hook on the right front of the printer just in front of the cartridges until it pops down. Grip the top of the cartridge(s) you're removing and pull straight up to remove them.

3
Remove all packaging from your new cartridge. Gently and carefully open the cartridge cover from the bottom of the cartridge while holding it upside down. Do not touch the now exposed area of the cartridge.
-
4
Flip the cartridge right side up, and hold it upright. Set it in the slot for its color, and push down until the hook in the printer snaps in over it. Repeat for every color that needs replacing.

5
Lift the scanner lid slightly to release the stand holding it in place, then lower the scanner lid. When the LCD screen asks "Did you change (name of color)?" press "Yes."
