How to Decorate a Galaxy Bedroom

Paint a deep space or galaxy mural on the walls or ceiling.

Many children dream of visiting another galaxy deep in space. If your child enjoys learning about outer space, send him there every night with a themed bedroom that includes the solar system, stars, astronauts and other space-related details. Create a special galaxy that's all his own, if he likes everything to be personalized. The bedroom can be modeled after popular space movies, cartoons, or the real thing. The colors and items you use should make your child feel comfortable and should be appropriate for his age.

Instructions

1. Paint the room in a color that serves as the background for your galaxy-themed bedroom. A deep blue is ideal for outer space, although it might be too dark, especially for a small child's bedroom. Paint the top 3 or 4 feet of the walls and ceiling in the dark color with the lower portion of the walls in a light sky blue. Consider painting a mural on one wall, if that's still too dark for your taste.

2. Place furniture in the room that complements your galaxy theme. This might include a space-ship-shaped bunk bed for kids, or silver metal furniture for teens or adults. Sleek, shiny furniture or white furniture will best work with your outer space bedroom.

3. Use themed bedding and curtains in the room to further carry out your theme. Bedding might include a shiny, silver comforter or thick white comforter to mimic an astronaut's suit, or a comforter with an image of the solar system, various galaxies or star constellations. Your curtains should complement the bedding without contrasting with the walls. If you have a busy wall mural, opt for solid curtains in the same color as the background.

4. Hang pictures or posters of the stars, planets, galaxies or other space images. Cover the ceiling with glow-in-the-dark stars, moons and galaxies. Hang models of the solar system from the ceiling painted with glow-in-the-dark paint.

5. Accessorize the room with space-related items that provide decor and function. For example, hang a light fixture that mimics the space station or put a space-shuttle lamp on top of the dresser or nightstand. Add a rug with images of stars or the solar system. Toss round pillows on the bed that mimic the planets or star-shaped pillows.
