How to Clean a Men's Polyester Top Coat
Polyester, a synthetic material used in many types of clothing and upholstery, is durable, wrinkle-resistant and retains its color. Polyester maintains the rigid structure of mens' outerwear and is commonly used in top coats and jackets. - Laundry stain remover
- Mild laundry detergent
- Liquid fabric softener
- Clothes hanger

Read the coat's label carefully to determine the percentage of polyester used to make the coat. Coats made from 100% polyester are easy to clean, but materials like polyester-silk blends require dry cleaning.

Pre-treat stains with a laundry stain remover or hydrogen peroxide. Gently rub the solution into the garment to loosen the stains.

Wash the coat in your washing machine using the permanent press cycle, warm water and a mild laundry detergent. Permanent press will help reduce wrinkles and maintain the shape of your coat.

Apply liquid fabric softener to the rinse cycle if you would like to soften a rigid, polyester top coat.

Place on a hanger and reshape the coat, then allow to air dry.

Tips & Warnings
Regardless of the percentage of polyester used in your coat, you should always follow the manufacturer's care instructions. If the label says to hand wash, then wash the coat by hand.
Do not dry polyester items in a clothes dryer because they will shrink, and sometimes even melt.
