How to Clean & Restore a Worn Fiberglass Shower Base
Fiberglass showers provide an affordable, yet durable, alternative to other materials such as cast iron or ceramic tile. Fiberglass shower bases are available in an endless variety of colors and shapes to fit any bathroom.
Things You Will Need
- Bucket
- Mild dish soap
- 2 or 3 soft cloths
- Baking soda
- Towel
- Wax-free gel coat polish
This glass and resin-based material requires regular cleaning and polishing to maintain its original look. Since there aren't any grout lines or caulking, the smooth fiberglass surface requires only basic cleaning methods.

Fill a bucket with 1 gallon of warm water and 1 or 2 tbsp. of mild dish soap. Dip a soft cloth in the bucket and wring it out.

Wipe the fiberglass shower base with the cloth, rinsing it in the bucket as it gets dirty. Sprinkle a light layer of baking soda over stains or tough messes and scrub them gently using small, circular motions.

Empty the bucket and refill it with clean water. Pour the water over the shower base to rinse.

Dry the fiberglass shower base with a towel.

Apply gel coat polish to a clean, soft cloth according to the package instructions.

Wipe a thin layer of gel coat polish onto the worn fiberglass shower base with small, circular motions.
