How to Upgrade an iPaq HP 2215 ROM

The read-only memory (ROM) installed in your HP iPaq 2215 has a series of instructions governing how the device operates. Since the original release of the device, HP has issued new ROM upgrades that improve the battery life, adds support for third-party programs and fixes several Bluetooth connectivity options. Upgrading the current ROM to a new version requires downloading the ROM upgrade file on your computer and transferring it over to the iPaq.

Instructions

      Connect the iPaq to its USB-charging cradle. Plug the cradle's USB cable into one of the USB ports on your computer.

      Navigate your web browser to the product support page for the iPaq 2200 series. Click the "Download Drivers and Software" link underneath the "Tasks" heading.

      Click the "HP iPAQ h2215 Pocket PC" link. Select your preferred language from the drop-down menu and click "Microsoft Windows for Pocket PC."

      Scroll down to the "BIOS" heading and click the download link next to the "HP iPAQ Pocket PC h2200 Series ROM Update" option. Navigate to the "Start" menu after the download finishes.

      Choose "All Programs" and click "Microsoft ActiveSync." Select "Tools" and navigate to the "Options" heading. Click the "Files" check box. Select "OK" to create a shared folder on your desktop that syncs with your iPaq.

      Locate the folder where you saved the ROM upgrade file. Click the file and drag it into the shared sync folder on the desktop to transfer it to your iPaq. Unplug the cradle's USB cable.

      Tap the "Start" menu on the iPaq's screen and select "Programs." Tap "File Explorer." Tap the entry for the ROM upgrade file and follow the on-screen instructions.

Tips & Warnings

  • The ROM upgrade file can also be saved to an SD card or CompactFlash card, if your computer has a built-in card reader. Insert the card in the card reader and click "Open a folder." Drag the ROM upgrade file to the new window and close the window. Remove the card and insert it in the card reader at the top of the iPaq 2215.

  • If you have already created a shared sync folder, you don't need to make another one. Simply drag the ROM upgrade file into the folder.

  • Don't connect the cradle's USB cable to a USB hub. Only connect the cable directly to a USB port on your computer to prevent transfer errors.
