How to Store Ammunition in Gun Safes

Ammunition needs to be protected in a gun safe.

A gun safe is one of the better options for firearm storage; it is much more secure than gun cases stored in a closet or under a bed. Ammunition must also be kept secure and away from harsh elements or temperatures that cause deterioration. Properly storing your weapon's ammunition will ensure that it stands the test of time.

Things You'll Need

• Air tight ammo cases
• Locking ammo boxes

Instructions

1. Place your ammunition boxes or cartridges into air tight ammo cases.

2. Set the ammo cases into a properly sized locking ammo box.

3. Place the ammo box or boxes on the bottom of the gun safe. This is an ideal location to place the ammo if your gun safe has a locking bottom door.

Tips & Warnings

• It is highly recommended that you store your ammo in a separate location away from your firearms. Purchasing a separate safe specifically for your ammo is a viable option if your gun safe isn't equipped with locking drawers or storage compartments.

• Never store firearms loaded in a gun safe.

• Never position your gun safe or ammo near sources of heat.
