Instructions to Call China

Calling China is easy once you understand the basics.

Whether your company is developing business ties with China, or you are planning to a trip to the country, you will have to know how to dial China from the United States. Fortunately, the process is easy once you understand the basics. However, since calls to China can be expensive, check with your long-distance carrier about affordable long-distance plans.

Instructions

1. Dial 011, the North American international access number.

2. Dial 86 for China's country code.

3. Dial the city code. Depending on the region, the city code will be between two and four digits long. The prefixes "13" or a "15" indicate a Chinese cell phone number.

4. Dial the six to eight digit phone number. For example, a Beijing number would read: 011-86-10-1875-4396. The country code is 86, 10 is the Beijing city code, and the eight digits that follow are the phone number.
