This drill emphasizes one- and two-touch soccer with accuracy because the field is much smaller.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Play within the boundaries of the 18-yard box. The direction of play is from sideline to sideline.

  2. Step 2

Set up two cones 3 to 4 feet apart to act as goals on separate sides of the field. The ball must pass through the cones on the ground to be counted as a goal. Bouncing and airborne balls do not count.

  3. Step 3

Avoid guarding the goal, which is not allowed. All five players must play the field. Offside rules are not applied in the drill to encourage making use of the limited space.

  4. Step 4

Maintain control of the ball by passing it to your teammates. Scoring goals is not the main objective of the drill.

  5. Step 5

Alternate a new team of five into the drill when a team allows a goal.

Tips & Warnings
  • Think of this more as a game of keep-away than a goal-scoring game.
  • Quick passes to your teammates are ideal.
  • Playing defense should be simplified because of the smaller field. However, both defensive and offensive skills are stressed during the drill.
  • Games will last 3 to 5 minutes before a goal is scored. Keep rotating in players from the sidelines.
  • If you have any condition that would impair or limit your ability to engage in physical activity, please consult a physician before attempting this activity. This information is not intended as a substitute for professional medical advice or treatment.
