How to Order a Copy of a Galveston County Divorce Decree

A divorce decree is the formal court order granting the termination of a marriage. There are many reasons why you may want to have a copy of this document including tax purposes, to carry out a legal name change or because you want to remarry in the future. In Galveston County, requests for copies of the divorce decree issued in Galveston County are handled by the County Clerk's Office. Regular and certified copies of the divorce decree are available for a small fee.

Call the County Clerk's Office at (409) 766-2200 to determine the current fees for either a regular or certified copy of the divorce decree.

Prepare a letter to the County Clerk's office. The letter should include the name of both parties to the divorce, the case number, the approximate date the divorce decree was issued, your return address and your signature.

Mail the letter you prepared in Step 2 with a money order or cashier's check for the exact amount of the required fee.
