How to Make Pen Friend
Pen pals (also called "pen friends") are two individuals who have, in most cases, never met, but correspond with one another by letter. People can be interested in having a pen pal for many reasons. Often times, it's simply for the fun of having a long-distance friend to whom you can send a good old-fashioned letter. There are also language exchange pen pals where you and your friend can assist each other in learning or improving skills in the other's language. The Internet has made finding a pen pal easy; there are hundreds of websites dedicated to linking up pen pals of all interests and nationalities.

Choose your friend wisely. Consider the type of person you intend to be pen pals with and for what purpose. Do you prefer a male or female friend? Someone from a specific country or with specific hobbies? Are you interested in a language exchange program or are you just looking for a new friend? Whatever your needs or desires, there's bound to be someone in the world who's the perfect pen pal for you.

Sign up for an account on one of the many pen pal websites online. A few examples include: PenPal, InterPals, PenPal Net, Pen Pal Garden and many others. These sites have the ability to link you up with potential pen pals all over the world who have entered their information on the site and are actively looking for a writing buddy.

Fill out your profile or list an ad that describes you and what you're looking for. Make sure your profile/ad is upbeat, cheerful and informative. Most importantly, be yourself. Give an accurate portrayal of your personality, likes and dislikes as well as your goals in having a pen pal.
-
4
Search the pen pal website of your choice for a friend that matches up with your interests. Most sites feature search options such as: Male or female, age range, users with photos only and of course some interest-based search terms such as sports, hobbies, etc. It may take some digging to find that "gem" of a friend, but with millions of potential pen pals online you're bound to find someone.
-
5
Contact the potential pen pal of your choice. Don't include personal contact information such as your address, phone number, etc right away. Start out by sending a couple of on-site messages to get a feel for the person and who they are. Once you feel comfortable enough with your new friend, it's okay to exchange addresses in order to correspond via snail mail if desired.

Practice safety and watch out for scams. Always be careful when revealing any personal information online. Although most individuals on pen pal sites are genuine people looking for new friends, there's always the possibility of scammers. One such scam involves a man (or even a woman) building up a friendship through writing and then proposing marriage to the other person in order to get out of his country. Don't become a con victim; play it safe and keep your personal information personal until you're sure your new friend is legit.
