How to Convert Discrete Binary Audio into a Sound File

Discrete binary data is simply a digital representation of analog sound, which is the sound waves that we hear. When you use a digital recording device, you are using it to convert the sound waves into binary sequences, which then can be read by computer, played back, edited, exported and burned to CD. To output a binary file, you first need to save it as an audio file.

Instructions

1. Record a discrete binary audio file using a digital sound recorder.

2. Import the binary data from the recorder to your computer. Consult your recorder's manual for specific instructions on how to do this.

3. Open the file in an audio editing program like Audacity, ProTools, SoundTrack Pro, Soundbooth or any number of other audio programs.

4. Using "File>Save as...", "File>Export...", or "File>Bounce to Disk" (unique to ProTools) save the binary data as an audio file, such as a WAV, MP3, AIFF or WMA file.
