How to Use Wavelab From Cubase
Steinberg's Wavelab is an audio editor designed to allow the user to produce professional sounding, fully mastered and complete mixes. It's easy to export a project you've been working on in Cubase --- a music production program also published by Steinberg --- to Wavelab to add the finishing touches to your mix and produce a mastered copy of your work ready for release.

Mix your track in Cubase after you have played in your individual tracks using a midi keyboard or live instruments. Click on "Open track mixer" in the top left of the screen to access the track sliders and main output channel and alter until you have levels you're happy with. You're going to export the finished mix as a whole to master in Wavelab so it's important to get this right.

Click on "Export" and than select "Audio mixdown" from the "File" menu in the top left of the Cubase window. The "Audio mixdown" function will allow you to convert your finished mix to an audio file that you can work with in Wavelab.

Select the folder you want your mixdown to be stored in, name your track and then choose to mixdown, or convert, your finished track to "Wave 64" format from the drop-down menu. Although WAV files are much larger than some other audio files, they are uncompressed and provide the best quality reproduction of your work as a consequence.

Click on the drop-down menus to choose your channel split, track resolution and sample rate and click on "Save" to start your mixdown.

Wait while Cubase converts your track. A timer will appear on screen showing the mixdown's progress. When finished, your track will have been converted into WAV format and stored in the folder chosen. You can play this back on most media players.

Open Wavelab.

Click on "File," hover over open and then click on "Wave."

Navigate to the file you want to work on in the window that's popped up and double-click to open it.

Edit and master your track with Wavelab's native effects and external VST plug-ins. You can click on the boxes of the "Effects" window in the top right of Wavelab to add treatments to your track such as stereo expansion, compression and equalization. These open in a separate window and allow you to can change the dynamics of your track while listening back to it. You can also highlight sections of your track with a mouse and use the edit buttons in the toolbar at the top of Wavelab to cut, duplicate and manually move sections of your finished mix.
