If your shredder overheats, the "REV" button will flash. This signals that your shredder has been used beyond the maximum running time of eight minutes. The shredder will automatically shut off. Wait at least 80 minutes before turning your shredder back on and using it.

If your shredder is not performing well, consider using shredder lubricant sheets on a regular basis. Put these sheets through your shredder after 30 minutes of shredding. Do this at least twice a month to clean build-up on the cutting heads.

Tips & Warnings

  • Emptying the paper bin regularly helps avoids causing damage to the shredder's cutting mechanism.

  • Staples offers a one-year limited warranty on its shredders. If your shredder still falls under the warranty period, you may want to have it repaired or replaced by the manufacturer.
