How to Make a Togo Costume Out of a Sheet

A classic toga in sculpture.

Ever since John Landis' Animal House debuted in 1978, the toga has been an easy and highly popular costume. With nothing more than a sheet and a few safety pins, you can recreate this classic Greek look. It's not only a practical solution for last-minute parties but also will be one of the more popular costumes...as long as you're willing to channel John Belushi for the night.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the end of the sheet at waist level. The short side of the sheet should be vertical (running the length of your legs).

    • 2

Wrap the sheet around your waist a few times. It should hang to knee length--fold the sheet horizontally before wrapping if it is too large.

    • 3

Secure the sheet around your waist with a few safety pins. Attach them within the folds of the sheet so that they not easily seen.

    • 4

Drape the rest of the sheet over one shoulder.

    • 5

Tuck the draped section into the sheet at your waist. Use more safety pins to hold it in place.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can further decorate your toga costume with sandals, armbands and a laurel wreath worn on your head.
