How to Disable My GPS Latitude Location in the Google Maps Toolbar

Google Maps is a smartphone application that allows cell phone users to quickly see a map of a specific area. This can be a particularly helpful tool when attempting to navigate to an unfamiliar location or determine your present location. One interesting aspect of the application is its integration with Latitude. This additional feature of Google Maps allows other Latitude users to see your location, while also showing you your present location. While this can be useful, some users may wish to disable the feature.

Instructions

1. Turn on your cell phone.

2. Navigate to the Google Maps application, and launch it.

3. Press the "Menu" or "Settings" button to bring up the Google Maps toolbar.

4. Select the "Latitude" option.

5. Press the "Menu" or "Settings" button to bring up the Latitude options menu.

6. Select the "Privacy" option.

7. Select the "Turn off Latitude" option to completely disable the service, or choose the "Hide your location" option so others can't see your location.

Tips & Warnings

• If someone has sent you a Latitude sharing request, you can accept it, but still hide your location. This can be done by choosing the "Accept, but hide my location" option in their "Sharing Request" invitation.
