How to Send an SMS From Facebook

You can send SMS messages through Facebook applications.

Facebook is one of the most popular ways to communicate with friends and family today, and it is rapidly approaching the popularity of cellular phones as a communication method. Sending an SMS (Short Message Service) message, often simply called a text message, via Facebook is possible with the use of certain Facebook applications.

Instructions

1. Access the Facebook Mobile page on the Internet (see Resources).

2. Click on the option titled "Sign Up for Facebook Text Messages." A small form titled "Activate Facebook Texts" will appear.

3. Fill in the "Activate Facebook Texts" page with your country of origin and your cellular phone carrier.

4. Send a text message using your mobile phone to the number provided. As of October 2010 you are required to send a text message with the letter "f" (with no quotes) to 32665.

5. Wait to receive the text message from Facebook Mobile. The text message will contain a code, which you must enter into the box labeled "Enter The Code Here." Following code entry, your Facebook Mobile account will be activated and you can send and receive SMS texts from Facebook using your mobile device. You will also be able to post status updates via text message.

Tips & Warnings

• If you do not wish to use the Facebook Mobile application, you can use third-party applications to send SMS texts from Facebook. Options include Text Me! and Send SMS (see resources.)

• When activating Facebook Mobile, be sure to uncheck the box saying "Add My Cell Number To My Profile" if you do not wish to have your phone number posted.
