How to Clear the Terminal Server Licensing Back to Zero

Terminal Services is a software application that lets you remotely control another computer on your network. When you log in to a Terminal Server, a license is registered in your Windows registry. If your computer is shut down improperly, the Terminal Server does not have the opportunity to revoke the license, leaving the session open. You clear the licenses by deleting the registry key in your Windows registry editor.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the Windows "Start" button. Type "regedit" into the search text box and press "Enter." This opens your Windows registry.

    • 2

Navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\" registry key. This lists several Microsoft-specific settings for your computer.

    • 3

Right-click the "MSLicensing" key and select "Delete." Click "Yes" to confirm that you want to remove the key. Reboot the computer for the settings to take effect.
