How to Use a Compaq Internet Keyboard With Any Computer

Keyboards have changed very little over the last two decades.

The Compaq Internet Keyboard works just like any other desktop keyboard, but has extra buttons near the top for common Internet functions. These include moving forward, going back and refreshing a page. Although old by today's standards, there is no reason why you can't use this keyboard with a newer computer. Understand how to use a Compaq Internet Keyboard with another computer to extend its usefulness.

Instructions

1. Disconnect the Compaq Internet Keyboard from your computer. Take note of which port on the system it plugs into.

2. 

   USB-to-PS/2 adapters allow you to attach USB keyboards to PS/2 ports.

   Plug the keyboard into the corresponding port on another computer. If your model uses a flat USB connector, plug it into a USB port. If it uses a round PS/2 connector, plug it into a PS/2 port on the back of the system. Most systems have labels for both ports.

3. 

   Insert the driver disc into your computer to install drivers.

   Install the drivers, if necessary. Modern operating systems such as Windows XP and Windows 7 automatically detect the keyboard and load an appropriate driver. Users of older operating systems should insert the floppy disk or CD-ROM that came with the keyboard into their computers to install the drivers.
