Get Rid of Serratia Marcescens in the Nasal Cavity

A bacteria called Serratia Marcescens causes many illnesses and infections, including sinusitis. The sinuses are located within close proximity to the nasal membranes and are exposed during inhalation or after a viral infection such as a common cold to drainage and bacteria. Sometimes mucosa and bacteria occlude the sinuses and drainage is obstructed. Obstructed sinuses are the perfect place for Serratia Marcescens to thrive. Symptoms of sinusitis include facial pain around the eyes; especially upon movement and a burning sensation over the bridge of the nose.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean areas that may harbor Serratia Marcescens. This bacteria is usually observed as a pink ring around and inside toilets, bathtubs and exhaust vents.

    • 2

Apply a hot compress to your face for three minutes followed by a cold compress for 30 seconds, six times a day around the orbital area and over the nasal bridge to alleviate the pain and to get the congested sinus cavities to drain.

    • 3

Spray oxymetazoline in each nostril once a day for no more than three days. You'll find this chemical name on the back of many over the counter decongestants. These work to relieve sinus pressure by dilating nasal and sinus passages to allow drainage of trapped mucus.

    • 4

Drink plenty of fluids to liquefy secretions and to reduce fever.

Tips & Warnings

  • There are three levels of sinusitis. Acute sinusitis lasts approximately four weeks, sub-acute sinusitis lasts four to 12 weeks and chronic sinusitis lasts more than 12 weeks.

  • If you're experiencing any of the symptoms of sinusitis and you coincidentally have noticed pink rings in your toilet, around your bathtub, in your hamper or anywhere else in your home, there's a good chance that you have sinusitis. If you've been experiencing symptoms for more than four weeks, high fevers, swelling around the eyes, visual problems, vomiting and/or lethargy, seek the immediate attention of an doctor. You may need greater measurements such as antibiotics.
