Driving a 2005 Chevrolet truck with malfunctioning headlights is dangerous.

In 2005, Chevrolet released four trucks: The Silverado, Avalanche, Colorado and SSR. The 2005 line of Chevrolet trucks are very user friendly vehicles. Novice car owners can perform simple maintenance tasks with no major assistance. One such maintenance task is repairing the turn signal. The most common issue with turn signals is a burned out bulb. Depending on the model of truck, the bulb type might differ. But most automotive parts suppliers sell replacement turn signal bulbs for all Chevrolet vehicles.

Instructions

  1. 2005 Chevrolet Silverado

    • 1

      Park the Silverado and turn off the engine. Open the hood and locate the headlamp assembly.

      Remove the security pin by turning it and pulling it straight out. Pull the headlamp assembly out of the vehicle. Disconnect the electrical connector.

      Press the retainer clip, located behind the turn signal assembly, toward the outside of the vehicle. Pull the turn signal assembly out of the vehicle.

      Press the locking release lever and rotate the bulb socket counterclockwise to remove it from the assembly. Remove the old bulb from the socket. Install the new bulb by pushing it into the socket. Rotate the socket clockwise and snap it into the locking release lever to reattach it to the assembly. The 2005 Chevrolet Silverado uses 3457A bulbs.

      Place the turn signal assembly back into the Silverado, then place the headlamp assembly back into the vehicle. Reconnect the electrical connector. Reattach the security pin and close the hood.

    2005 Chevrolet Avalanche

      Park the Avalanche and turn off the engine. Open the hood.

      Remove the turn signal/parking lamp assembly by pressing the release clip on the outboard side of the assembly and pulling it toward you.

      Pull the inboard side of the assembly out from the vehicle. Press the locking release lever on the assembly. Rotate the bulb socket counterclockwise and remove it from the turn signal/parking lamp assembly.

      Remove the old bulb from the socket. Place the new bulb into the socket. The 2005 Chevrolet Avalanche uses 3157A bulbs.

      Put the bulb socket into the turn signal assembly and rotate it clockwise to lock it into place. Place the inboard end of the assembly into the vehicle and push the outboard side in until the release clip snaps into place.

    2005 Chevrolet Colorado

      Park the Colorado and turn off the engine. Open the hood.

      Remove the turn signal assembly by pressing on the release clip on the outboard side of the housing, then pulling the outboard end of the lamp away from the vehicle. Pull the inboard side of the lamp out from the small notch in the grille.

      Turn the bulb socket counterclockwise and remove it from the lamp assembly. Remove the old bulb from the bulb socket. Place the new bulb into the bulb socket. The 2005 Chevrolet Colorado uses 3757A bulbs. Turn the bulb clockwise to lock it into place.

      Place the inboard end of the turn signal assembly over the small notch in the grille. Align the release clip of the assembly with the square opening in the grille.

      Push the outboard side of the assembly into the vehicle until the release clip snaps into place. Close the hood.

    2005 Chevrolet SSR

      Park the SSR and turn off the engine. Open the hood and locate the metal bar that runs across the front of the vehicle.

      Remove the two screws located near the front of the hood that hold the bar in place. Release the tabs on the sides of the bar that attach the bar to the headlights.

      Pull outward on the bar to remove it from the vehicle. Locate and release the tabs behind the grille that hold the assembly in place. Unsnap the tabs and push forward to remove the assembly.

      Rotate the bulb socket counterclockwise to access the bulb. Remove the old bulb and push in a new one. The 2005 Chevrolet SSR uses T20 bulbs. Place the socket back into the assembly and rotate clockwise to lock the bulb.

      Place the assembly back into the vehicle and snap the tabs over it to secure the assembly. Push the bar back onto the vehicle. Reattach the tabs on the side of the bar. Reinstall the two screws to secure the bar. Close the hood.

Tips & Warnings

  • Never touch halogen bulbs with your bare hands. Doing so can cause hot spots to form on the glass, which can ruin the bulb.
