How to Contract Typing Jobs at Home

How to Contract Typing Jobs at Home thumbnail
Typing services now frequently offer other services like newsletter design.

You can make money typing from home, whether full-time or part-time, without buying a report or manual in response to an online or offline ad offering huge amounts of money. Be wary of such come-ons and build a home typing business yourself. Many companies and individuals have data entry they need done, audio files they need transcribed and reports they need typed. Offering your typing services --- and any other computer skills you have --- can mean a profitable business.

Instructions

    • 1

Practice. If you are not already an experienced typist, take a class or get an instructional book. Most professional typists can do at least 40 words per minute.

    • 2

Create a list of services you could offer in addition to typing. Your typing experience may enable you to format documents and newsletters, put together bulk mailings or other related services.

    • 3

Call local typing services and find out their fees. Most services charge by the typed page. Determine rates for any other services you will offer.

    • 4

Design a brochure and business card that you can send out to area businesses. Detail your service and list your prices. Be sure to include your contact information as well as a web address, if you have one.

    • 5

Assemble a portfolio. If you have typed an organization's newsletter, brochure or any other items, put them together in a binder or folder so prospective clients can see your work.

    • 6

Approach different companies and organizations. First, send a letter or email detailing your services. Then, follow up with a phone call offering to stop in or do some of their work on a trial basis.

    • 7

Place ads in local newspapers, magazines or local trade publications or chamber of commerce publications.

    • 8

Use social media and word of mouth among friends and family. Place flyers on local bulletin boards, including colleges and schools. College professors often need people to type lengthy exams and other information.
