Use different colored paper for a decorative look.

Creating paper frames at home for your favorite photographs is a fun, easy craft. You can really show off your creative side by decorating the paper to complement the picture that's inside. Make a few different frames in similar colors and styles and display them alongside each other. Try this project with the kids; they'll love getting to customize their own frames and they can give them away as gifts.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the photograph you wish to frame. Set the picture aside, since you won't need it again until the end of the project.

    • 2

Stack two pieces of thick card stock on top of each other. Cut the pieces to the appropriate size. Use a ruler and a craft knife to make sure the dimensions are even. You'll want the frame to be several inches larger than the picture itself for the best effect. You may want to lay a piece of cardboard down under the card stock so you do not damage your table.

    • 3

Cut a window in one piece of the card stock slightly smaller than the picture itself. Once again, use a ruler and craft knife to ensure that the edges are sharp and even. Measure the paper with a ruler first to make sure that the window is in the exact center of the frame.

    • 4

Cut another piece of card stock in a different color about 3/4 inch to 1 inch larger than the frame on all sides. Glue this piece of paper to the back piece of the frame (the piece without the window). Use the ruler to make sure it is centered before you apply the glue.

    • 5

Cut four 1/2-inch squares out of the card stock to use as spacers. Dab glue on both sides of the squares. Use them to attach the two matching pieces of card stock to each other. Make sure both pieces of stock are perfectly lined up for a polished, professional appearance. Allow the glue to dry completely.

Slide your picture into the frame.

Tips & Warnings

  • Glue a small length of ribbon to the back of the frame if you want to hang your picture.
