How to Build a Single Mast Nautical Flag Pole
Flags have been used by sailors for years to identify different information about the boat they are sailing on. Flags or banners are often used to identify the country the boat is registered in, the name of the boat and if the boat has any official capacity or function. While you can easily purchase a single mast nautical flag pool, you can just as easily build one yourself using PVC piping and related materials.
Things You'll Need
- Length of three quarter inch PVC piping and one cap
- Two eye screws
- PVC glue

1
Measure and cut a length of ¾ inch PVC piping for your single mast flag pole. Determine the length of the flagpole when it is attached to your boat. You will need to be aware of any bridges or other structures you sail under.
-
2
Measure two inches from the top of the PVC pole and drill a small hole into one side of the piping with a ¼ inch drill bit.
-
-
3
Screw the "eye screw" into this hole and affix into place using PVC glue, by applying a small amount of glue to both the inside and outside of hole where the "eye screw" is inserted.
-
4
Apply a small amount of PVC glue to a ¾ inch PVC cap and secure the cap to the top of the PVC piping.
-
5
Measure down from the "eye screw" the same distance as the dimension of the flag or standard you will be attaching to the mast, and mark where the flag will be attached.
-
6
Drill another hole at this spot and then insert and glue the second "eye screw" to the mast. Allow the glue to dry and install the pole on your boat.
