How to Play in a Craps Tournament

Money management is the key to playing and winning a craps tournament. It's important to know as much about the game and all the possible bets as you can before you play in a tournament.

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

    Go to the tournament organizer's table or booth in the casino or card club.

  2. Step 2

    Get your seating assignment.

  3. Step 3

    Find out if the tournament is one in which you're competing against all players at all tables or just competing against the other players at your own table.

  4. Step 4

    Take your place.

  5. Step 5

    Count the number of chips given to you by the dealer. Make sure it's correct.

  6. Step 6

    Listen to the dealer recite the rules of the tournament and the betting structure.

  7. Step 7

    Play with the objective to advance to the next round or go broke. Figure out how much you need to win to advance to the next round or win the tournament.

  8. Step 8

    Know all the possible bets that can be made in craps (see Related eHows).

  9. Step 9

    Recognize who is your opponent.

  10. Step 10

    Know how many chips your opponent has, always. Practice chip counting in order to do this.

  11. Step 11

    Make sure no tournament players are hiding chips with their bodies or in their hands.

  12. Step 12

    Make small bets.

  13. Step 13

    Correlate your bets with the bets of your most serious competitor.

    Bet the maximum on the last rolls if you aren't the chip leader.

  15. Step 15

    Bet the minimum required to maintain your winning position on the last rolls if you are the chip leader.

Tips & Warnings
  • Players are either invited to craps tournaments or register in advance through the mail or by telephone. Sometimes tournament organizers will let you register on the day of the tournament.
  • Your opponent is the person who has the biggest bankroll and is the most likely to make big bets.
  • Always try to be the last to act.
