How to Update Sun Java

Java software platform is a programming framework that allows users to view complex graphics, games and interactive data within a web browser. Java was developed by Sun Microsystems. Users download the JRE platform (Java Runtime Environment) that enables the computer to run Java-based web pages. This software includes an automatic update option to always keep it up to date. However, you can manually download Java updates if this feature has been disabled.

      Open the "Start" menu and click "Control Panel."

      Double-click the "Java" icon and click the "Update" tab in the "Java Control Panel" window.

      Click "Update Now." Follow the prompts to install new updates (if an update is available). Click "OK" in the "Java Control Panel" window after the update is installed.

Tips & Warnings

  • Java includes an automatic update feature. Click the "Java Update Available" balloon in the system tray area of the taskbar and follow the prompts to install the update.
