1
Review your training and experience. Consider taking additional classes to upgrade and refresh your skills. If you haven't finished high school, get your GED. Classes are available at local community colleges, through adult education programs or online. Consider going back to college if you have not completed a degree.
-
2
Update your resume. Make sure that your resume accurately reflects your talents and experience. Request letters of reference from previous employers, teachers or mentors. If your resume is complicated, consider hiring the services of a resume builder or coach to help you "shine" in the best possible light.

3
Network. Many companies depend on employee referrals when hiring additional staff. Build a list of acquaintances, friends and relatives. Ask them to recommend you if they are aware of position. Tell them that you are flexible and open to suggestions. Consider all opportunities. An entry level job may lead to promotion or an alternate position.
-
4
Create a good impression. Be punctual, courteous and friendly. Dress neatly in clothing appropriate for the position. Tone down jewelry and flamboyant styles. Pay close attention to personal hygiene. You only have one chance to make a good first impression.
-
5
Act in a proactive manner. Make a list of the jobs you would like to have. Apply for them. The company may say they are not hiring. Ask to fill out a resume to leave on file. Check back with the company in person every 2 to 4 weeks. You will show persistence, determination and commitment that may pay off when an unexpected vacancy arrives.
-
6
Search the Internet for employment positions that fit your resume. Narrow your search by restricting location, pay scale and benefit requirements. Register and post your resume on free employment job boards.
