How to Build a Drag Car
The tire burning, engine roaring power of a drag car is not beyond your reach. There are numerous aftermarket modifications that can be made to customize your current vehicle into your very own drag race car. Replace the engine, reconstruct the body, lower the suspension, modify the exhaust system and replace the tires. Design the car's exterior to your liking, and in no time, you have built your own dragster.

1
Install a supercharger or turbocharger to the vehicle's engine. High performance aftermarket add-ons like superchargers and turbochargers are essential to increase the power of the car. They blow more air into the combustion chambers of the engine, making the fuel burn faster and increasing the engine's horsepower.

2
Lower the suspension of the vehicle and replace the stock shock absorbers with high performance racing shocks. This will add to the sporty appeal of the vehicle and make it look more aggressive. Lowering the car's suspension also lowers the center of gravity, which improves handling. The more level the ride, the easier it is for the vehicle to maintain a consistent push forward, enhancing aerodynamics and ultimately making the vehicle faster.

3
Modify the exhaust system. A few simple modifications to the vehicle's exhaust system can dramatically increase the horsepower. Examine the tubing of the exhaust system for clogging and damage. Dents and clogging in the system can reduce the power produced by the engine, and prevent it from producing the muscle car sound common among these cars. Replace the muffler with an aftermarket high performance version.

4
Replace the stock body with a ground effects kit. Online auto accessory sites like Andy's Auto Sports and R&R Racing have many different designs you can choose. Ground effects modifications, like adding a front air dam, or a ram air hood to increase horsepower and provide additional airflow to the engine, can also look stylish on your drag car. Adding ground effects is another way to improve the aerodynamics of the car.
-
5
Replace your stock tread street tires with high performance racing slicks. These tires are wider, flatter, and slightly under-inflated to provide better traction at the track.
-
6
Install a roll cage and a fire extinguisher for proper safety. Even if your drag car is just for show and will never actually see use on the track, no drag race car is complete without a roll cage.
