It is possible to correct the digitizing of your satellite reception.

When watching television with the aid of a Hughes DirecTV DVR, you may notice the image occasionally looks boxed off or leaving a trail behind moving objects. This is known as digitizing and is the digital version of a snowy reception. This problem is caused by many different issues, all of which you are able to correct in some manor, although you may need to contact DirecTV for the correction.

Instructions

Power down the digital DVR and leave it off for a few minutes. This resets many of the settings on the DVR. Power the hardware back up, and see if the digitizing continues.

Disconnect the cables running from the receiver to the television. Clean off the tips of the cables with a damp cloth. If the cables are dirty, the TV is not going to receive a clean video signal, causing the digitizing. Once the cables are dry, you can plug the cables back in.

Call DirecTV at 888-777-2454 if the problem is occurring and there is no weather problem. The satellite dish is probably knocked out of alignment (this is a common issue) causing the digitizing. Set up a day and time frame for a DirecTV satellite technician to stop by and realign the satellite dish.

Tips & Warnings

  • If it is rainy or there is a storm outside, you are going to experience digitizing. This is just one of the drawbacks of using a satellite dish. You aren't able to do much about the problem except wait the storm out.
